What if you knew me
outside of your perception
of who you think I should be?

What if you made
an unprogrammed choice
to guide perceptive thinking?

Who would Jesus hate
in heretical review?
Father, please forgive them--they haven’t got a clue

Are my prayers less sacred?
Does God's light shine through me less bright?
would it make you all that much happier if I would live a lie?
Should I just keep hating the way I was born for life until I die
to accommodate and reinforce the unexamined life?

I didn't ask to be different
I prayed that I'd be changed
but the answer wasn't what I sought
so I stepped up to take my place

I know most are pretending
put on a happy face
they lament dreams they abandoned
scattered along the way

What were yours?
What were yours?

Life is full of compromise
so it's easy to object
embracing my difference makes you sore
proceeding circumspect

But are my prayers less sacred?
Does God's light shine through me less bright?
would it make you all that much happier if I would live a lie?
Should I just keep hating the way I was born for life until I die
to accommodate and reinforce the unexamined life?

Let's take a moment to reflect
I'm human--just like you
resolution of spirit inside
takes courage in a debut

Unveiled of my only lie
I want to set things straight
I choose to dwell in integrity but
who I am is not set by debate

Only love can open eyes
Only love can bring world peace
You don't separate yourselves from harm
when you are criticizing me

So I’ll ask…
Are my prayers less sacred?
Does God's light shine through me less bright?
would it make you all that much happier if I would live a lie?
Should I just keep hating the way I was born for life until I die
to accommodate and reinforce the unexamined life?

Refusing integrity and love—when there’s so much hate and so little of--is the surest road to hell…

Just ask yourself if you feel good
When your hateful words are understood
What would Jesus say?
